This is technically called bluffing. Any player can use bets to bluff their way out in a game.

You can even make the pot much bigger by using a certain bet given the right timing. Or, if you're that good, you can take the pot immediately. One word of caution -- if used in the wrong way or at the wrong time these bets may jeopardize your game.

Here are some tips to make the pot bigger by using Check and Raise. When it's your turn to bet, the first move you need to do is to Check. Because of this you'll tempt other players to Raise their bets and ultimately the pot. After that your next move is to Raise. If your opponent is smart enough and realizes what you have just done normally he will fold, unless they've got a very good hand.

In poker it's normal to lose some bets and normally other players will spot this kind of strategy. But using this kind of strategy, eventually you will win a pot. Another type of bet you can use is All-in.

All-in is similar to check and raise in that its objective is to get your opponent to fold. Your opponent must have a very good hand so he can call your bet. Most players fold when someone calls for an All-in bet.

However you must be aware when to make an All-in bet. If the last person to call a bet is the lowest or highest chip holder they would usually call an All-in bet. It'll put everyone in a heads-up situation. This can be bad for you; most players trust their luck on their cards pitting that against yours.

Keep this in mind that you only call an All-in bet if you've got a very good hand. It's much easier to make an All-in bet than to call one. When you make an All-in bet, you're declaring to other players that you've got a very good hand. It's difficult for somebody to call unless they have a winning hand.

You can win a poker game by using the strategies in betting. Because of this you will have a better advantage than other players.
